In a competitive space where technology is ever evolving, smartphone manufacturers and tech brands have to continuously conduct thorough research and development to understand what consumers are looking for and to fulfil these needs, in order to stand out against its competitors within the field.
OPPO understands this and has conceptualized its OPPO Imaging Lab to thoroughly research the very pain points its users go through in order to better improve their overall experience.
With this, OPPO has unveiled its latest smartphone photography advancements: the OPPO RGBW Sensor 2021, OPPO 85-200mm Continuous Optical Zoom, OPPO Five-axis OIS – all of which gives OPPO users the added advantage in the realm of smartphone imaging. This, alongside the MariSilicon X, which was announced during the annual OPPO INNO DAY, marks just some of the ways that OPPO is breaking ground in innovation.
OPPO Imaging Lab, a research institute dedicated to imaging, has presence in 6 locations across the world, each with an intended focus. For instance, the imaging lab in Yokohama, Japan is recognized as the hub responsible for creating a number of OPPO's self-developed imaging technologies found in the OPPO Reno smartphone series. Meanwhile, the India hub located in Hyderabad zooms in on the study of futuristic solutions and resolving pain points in night videography and much more.

For situations in which poor lighting cannot be remedied, users are in control of how their image turns out. Users should not feel limited by their device and the OPPO RGBW Sensor gives them the freedom to dictate the outcome of their photography experience.
(iii) OPPO 85-200mm Continuous Optical Zoom
OPPO’s 85-200mm Continuous Optical Zoom technology module was designed from the ground up with internal structure and motion stability in mind. It redesigns the underlying structural module at the hardware level by adopting G+P (glass + plastic) lens technology for the first time, and introduces two ultra-thin, high-precision aspheric glass lenses to significantly boost optical effects, such as minimizing stray light.
Some of the new features of this technology include an upgraded actuator which significantly increases the dynamic tilt at which the lens system can travel, as well as an upgraded buffer mechanism which better protects the two sets of movable lenses.
In line with professional optical imaging-SLR cameras, the OPPO Find X5 Pro pioneered the introduction of Five-axis OIS into the mobile phone industry, achieving an SLR-level hardware image stabilization. By combining the three-axis sensor-shift and two-axis lens-shift, the Five-axis OIS offers the best OIS performance in the industry.
Moving forward with the OPPO Imaging Lab
OPPO Imaging Lab, which has been around for the past few decades has been one of the key reasons why OPPO has been able to produce innovative products consistently while not compromising on the user experience for each. After all, it is OPPO’s belief that technology is made to complement the lifestyle of mankind and thus far, they have been able to do so – all starting with the research conducted at the OPPO Imaging Lab.
Moving forward, OPPO Imaging Lab will continue conducting research on its groundbreaking MariSilicon X imaging NPU and how it can elevate the art of computational photography to an unprecedented level. The OPPO Imaging Engineering team will also be focusing on how to maximize the MariSilicon X’s potential including enabling third-party applications and improving the overall level of Android ecological imaging performance.
